Power Plants and Utilities

Turbines, transformers, reactors, cooling systems, pressure vessels, conveyors, fuel storage and the like are just a few of the hundreds of major components that power plants and utility managers are responsible for. However, when it comes to concrete sawing, precision demolition and subsurface imaging, Diamond is the one source they trust for professional, worry-free services, as described below.

Wire Sawing

When cutting concrete in coal, natural gas and nuclear generating stations Diamond Concrete Sawing uses wire saw saws to modify the monolithic concrete structures within these facilities. Wire sawing can be used to cut vertically through concrete without limit to depth or length, and to create circular openings in extremely thick suspended concrete slabs and concrete walls. Diamond Concrete Sawing also uses wire saws to cut metals, even stainless steel. And because the saws can be operated remotely, operators can direct the concrete cutting process from a safe location when radiological, gaseous or other hazards exist.

Wall Sawing

Wall Sawing

Plant and facility managers involved in making improvements to existing buildings and structures will invariably need to create openings for windows, mechanical chases, louvers, scuppers, elevators, doors and for many other purposes. Wall sawing allows for precise, ready for rough-in, openings in concrete, precast, or masonry structures. Diamond combines wall sawing with the use of chainsaws to create perfect corners with no overcuts.

Core Drilling

Power plants, water filtration, and water treatment plants contain heavily reinforced concrete structures exceeding 24 inches in thickness. Large diameter openings are the most common requirement and Diamond is equipped to core openings as large as 54 inches in diameter. Additionally Diamond is equipped to wire saw perfect openings as large as 10 feet in diameter.

BROKK

Robotic Demolition

Safety is undeniably the most important aspect of work being performed in power facilities today. The ability to use a machine to do the work of a person in a confined space or a radiological area is of tremendous value. Brokk machines are capable of working where a person cannot, and because they are controlled by wireless remote the operator can work safely out of harm’s way. Attachments enable Brokk machines to break, crush, or scarify concrete, excavate soils, and even core holes. Brokk machines may be adapted to complete other tasks as well.

Subsurface Imaging (GPR)

When modifying existing structures it is critical for coal fired, natural gas and nuclear power generating stations, as well as for municipal water facilities, to maintain structural integrity. Similarly, when excavating is required on the surrounding property, it is of the utmost importance that buried transmission and communication lines, water and sanitary supply lines, and other critical infrastructure are not impacted. By using Ground Penetrating Radar — GPR, Diamond is able to provide a clear “subsurface image” of targets within concrete or soil that can be utilized to mitigate risk by providing accurate location and orientation of subsurface targets.
